As an interpreter, I often hear people telling me “they’ve always wanted to learn sign language.”  As the wife of a Brain Doctor, I can tell you, there’s a reason you’ve always wanted to learn sign language.  From 2014-2018 we had the pleasure of operating the Brain Health Center by Dr. Nussbaum in Wexford, PA.  The talent that came through those doors was humbling.  The amount of learning and inspiration shared between the instructors and students made me feel as if I graduated with a 4-year degree in Brain Health!  ASL Friends is delighted to have partnered with Dr. Nussbaum and his Brain HealthLifestyle®.

Mental Stimulation is one component of the Brain Health Lifestyle®.  Your brain is hungry for new learning.  If you’ve always wanted to learn American Sign Language (ASL), guess what?  Your brain is starving until you take the first step!  Take this opportunity as the new school year begins to look for classes at community colleges, Deaf residential schools, or Deaf interpreting agencies.  If you’re feeling shy, take a friend.  Socialization is another key component of Dr.  Nussbaum’s Brain Health Lifestyle®.

You are lucky to be learning American Sign Language during a period of time when quality resources are abundant online.  Of course, there is no replacement for human-to-human learning.  Once you get rolling, reach out to a Deaf mentor or friend to guide you further along.  Here are a few quick facts:

  •               ASL is not universal.
  •               ASL is a complete language.
  •               ASL is accepted as a foreign language at many universities.

Join the Fun!   ASL for ALL Brains!
